Formerly a warehouse, the 2-storey backhouse is now a comfortable guesthouse with its own private access from the street, separated from the main house by a green courtyard. It’s a peaceful place to stay and feel at home for guests artists and visitors of the numerous cultural festivals in Utrecht, for guest teachers at the University of Utrecht, and others.
The Gallery Guesthouse is not a B&B, but an accomodation from 5 days up to 9 months.
Ground Floor: sleeping and office area. Bathroom (toilet, shower, double sink). Washing machine. Two extra long and wide beds, together a king size bed.
First Floor: living/kitchen area. Kitchen has hot air oven, dishwasher, microwave, espresso machine etc. Nice light from skylight and three windows that look upon courtyard.
Frontdoor adjoins alley to Lange Nieuwstraat and to a court, the Dorstige Harthof.
Second door gives access to courtyard, which can be used by guests/tenants.
The Central (train) Station is at 12 minutes walking distance and 5 minutes away by bus. Busstop is 1 minute away.
The house is ideally situated in the Museum Quarter of the historical center of Utrecht, between the two beautiful main canals. Shops, cafes, restaurants, museums, cinemas, theaters, galleries, and a supermarket are around the corner or within walking distance.
A nice walk along the Oudegracht leads within 5 minutes to the Twijnstraat, Utrecht's oldest shopping street, where you find a supermarket and specialized biological shops, trendy vintage boutiques, bars and hip restaurants, and small commerce like a bakery, fish shop, shoemaker, drugstore, bike shop, liquor shop, hairdresser etc. There is even a tattoo shop. At the end lies the Ledig Erf, surrounded by the Louis Hartlooper Complex with movietheater, restaurant and cafe and two traditional bars. As soon as the weather allows, the terraces are full of locals from the neighbourhood, srudents and tourists. Here you will also find a postoffice/bookshop/stationary and cash dispenser.

Jazz pianist Heleen Schuttevaźr and painter Jan Mulder who live in the main house. They combine hospitality with arts. Pieces from their collection of contemporary art are on the walls in the guesthouse.

Also check The Gallery Guesthouse, situated in the trendsetting neighbourhood Williamsburg. The Guesthouse looks out upon the East River and the Williamsburg Bridge that connects Williamsburg with Manhattan, which is one stop away by train.
Bedford Avenue, the internationally known main street with cafes, restaurants, boutiques, art galleries and nightlife, is only one block away. Hosts Roy Lethen (Gallery Guesthouse NY) and Heleen Schuttevaźr (Gallery Guesthouse Utrecht) are family related and share a vision of combining hospitality and arts.
The guesthouses feature arts by international artists. The permanent exhibit is an initiative of Paulien Lethen-Schuttevaźr, artist and director of the Holland Tunnel Gallery, a small gallery next door of the Gallery Guesthouse NY.
